"Geronimo Unit Patch, Plaque"

Commissioned by a former commander of the 1st battalion (airborne) 509th infantry, currently headquarter in Ft Polk, LA, as a memento of his service and leadership of this historic and legendary US Army airborne battalion, The artist was humbled to be contacted by this officer from Iraq were he is currently commanding a separate unit, with this commission request . This carving features the scaled up version of the original WWII 509th unit patches in high relief with yellow wood stain and inlayed ebony to symbolize both the black aspects of the patch and the very first American combat jump made in WWII by any army airborne unit, the 509th into North Africa in 1942 durring operation torch.
