Commissioned by a disabled paratrooper veteran, injured as a result of his service on active duty while assigned to a forward deployed airborne infantry unit in Europe, during America’s Cold War, the concept of this wall frieze carving was to act as a memento of the his sacrifice to his nation in the permanent damage to his feet incurred while deployed there. This carvings symbolic design features include a high relief rendering of the cap patch worn by the WWII era members o f his unit, which his unit traces its origins from and the famous Corcoran dress jump boots still proudly worn by paratroopers today, carved to lace with real leather.
