"New Geyser"

Joni Adolf Steinolfsson - Tryggvi Thorlief Larum

This sculpture was conceived and created by its artists as a gift to the Icelandic Club of Greater Seattle.

Its formal presentation to the club occurred on October 3rd, 2007 at the Calvary Lutheran Church of Seattle.

First envisioned by the artists in 2006, to memorialize the bold Icelandic immigrants to Washington State both past and present.  The artists were inspired by the club’s printed new geyser logo utilized on their newsletter first used in 1969.  Great symbolism was utilized by the artists in choosing to first fashion this sculpture’s main body with four shields and carved circular lace in the United States out of Washington state cedar, by Icelandic - American Tryggvi Larum where upon it was shipped to Iceland to have the five national symbols of Iceland made of Icelandic Arctic birch applied and carved by Joni Steinolfsson.  The sculpture was then returned to America symbolizing the full circle of the Icelandic and American immigrant experience.
