"Prow Serpent"
Inspired from the carvings on the prow of the Oseberg ship, located in the Viking Ship Museum, in Oslo, Norway. The ship itself is a royal yacht and not a true warship. It has been described as the most beautiful ship ever built and a national treasure to the Norwegians. When it was discoverd, it became to the Norwegians what the Pyramids are to the Egyptians. The carving on the prow itself is two-dimensional and quite small, of a repeating design. The artist has chosen to embellish this design by scaling-up its size and turning it into a three-dimensional design.
The completed design measures 18"x18"x2'3". Sculpted from a beautiful black walnut burl slab, the colors and grains are exceptional and enhance its natural beauty.
