"Rune Stone"

A Rune stone in Sweden dating from the Viking Age reads, "Sven did go to the East, (Russia) and there he fed the eagles." This poetry of the warrior poet simply states that Sven was engaged in armed combat that led to casualties. Throughout Scandinavia, rune stones were raised and crafted with the best in art and poetry to memorialize nobles, warriors and loved ones by surviving family members. Often times these stones were placed at a ford, or river crossing for travelers to indicate river crossing points.

Inspired by these great works of stone art, the artist chose a slab of redwood and fashioned the slab to resemble these stones. The etched rune carving was finished with a high grade gold paint, similar to the bright colors used by the original stone carvers on their stones.

This piece measures 17" X 8" X 1 1/2." *Sold*
