"State Bed"

More functional art than furniture, this is the largest sculpture Tryggvi has done to date. Based upon the circa 850 AD queen-sized travel bed from the Oseberg Queen's Burial Mound in Norway excavated in the 1800's, this modified California King-sized redesign of the original was commissioned by a West Coast client. While honoring many aspects of its original design qualities, other elements beginning with scale were incorporated in the redesign such as raising the height of the animal head posts from the orignial 4' 5" to a dramatic 6' in height and incorporating summetry to the scaled up redesign. The animal head posts were only carbed on the ousies where the redesign has been carved on he insides as well. With the exception of maple used for the foot posts, the entire bed was fabricated from American beech, a similar species to the Norwegian beech used for the orginal.

Scale: 88" x 88" footprint
Material: American beech / maple
