"Wings of Tribute"

Conceived as a unit tribute carving to pay equal homage to the 3rd battalion (airborne) 509th infantry currently deployed in Afghanistan, the sister battalion of the 1-509th by request of a member of the 509th PIA , for the artists possible consideration of creating a similar unit tribute carving for donation to the 3-509th which had distinguished itself in the war in Iraq. Embracing this concept the artist created this wall frieze carving utilizing the design input of a 3-509th NCO and the donated laser etching of a local merchant, this carving features five combat stars carved in raised relief on a scaled up version of the US Army’s jump master parachute badge award. It was formally installed in 2009 at the units, regimental headquarters located at Ft Richardson, Alaska, as a sponsored gift from the 509th Parachute Infantry Association, honoring this units service to our nation.
